Girl Brain Sketch Comedy is a collection of observational, situational and sensational humour from the hearts and minds of three fine Albertan ladies! Written, directed and performed by Alyson Dicey, Ellie Heath and Caley Suliak, their shows explore all the finest and goriest bits of a Girl’s Brain through sketch comedy.
This group has seen great success in their time together. In their first year, they were nominated as “Best Comedy Show in Edmonton” in VUE Weekly’s last issue. Their beginnings started with a sold out run of shows at the Grindstone from April 2018- August 2019. From there, they had a sold out weekend at the Citadel in late 2019 as part of their House Series. They then joined Theatre Network as part of their Roxy Performance Series and sold out the first 2 shows of their run at the Roxy on Gateway. They look forward to returning to the Roxy on 124th Street for more shows in the future!
Girl Brain has appeared at local festivals like the Edmonton Fringe, Grindstone Comedy Fest and Rapid Fire’s Improvaganza. They’ve also appeared internationally at Philly Sketchfest, Central Florida Sketchfest and the 2019 and 2020 Toronto Sketchfest! Another notable moment was having Carolyn Taylor from CBC’s Baroness Von Sketch guest with them in January 2019 at the Grindstone!
Girl Brain has been sponsored by Bumble, GoodMorning.com and A&W. In addition, they’ve appeared front page in all of the popular arts and culture publications in Edmonton as well as being guest panelists on Edmonton AM (CBC Radio) and a guest on the CTV National News. Their filmed sketches, “Herpes” and “Quarantinis” were shortlisted at the Edmonton Short Film Festival, as well as being nominated for AMPIAs for both.
Girl Brain champions other female and non-binary artists in and around Edmonton, and often spotlights other artists from varying disciplines in their self-produced shows.
“Arguably the hottest comedy act happening in the city, the sketch comedy trio of Alyson Dicey, Caley Suliak, and Ellie Heath are the talented gals who provide the laughs about everyday life situations.” -Lucy Haines, DAZE Magazine
